Kirby is our first bitch and has taught us so much about the breed and ourselves.
At the 2001 American Bullmastiff Association National Specialty Steve and I fell completely in love with the BOB winner that year - CH Tauralan Red Teddy.
We were smitten with his good looks and his charm. When our good friends Lindy Whyte and Vince Grlovich of Tryumphe Bullmastiffs told us they were going to breed their beautiful bitch, Iris,
to Teddy, we were certain that we wanted a puppy from this litter. We had been going to shows for months watching Iris and liked everything about her. We were thrilled
in May of 2003 when Lindy called to say that Iris had given birth to 4 girls and one boy. We couldn't wait to be able to see them.
On July 3 we went to Pennsylvania to pick up our baby girl. Lindy had narrowed it down to two puppies for us to pick from based on what we told her we wanted temperament wise. Her friend,
Deb Cecotti had done the Volhard puppy test on the litter and both of these girls had scores similar to what we desired. We wanted a confident bitch that was fun and loved life. I wanted a good
obedience prospect and a girl who might enjoy walking in Bogey's footsteps as a therapy dog someday.
Well, we definitely got all we wanted with Kirby and more! Obedience instinct also means smart as a whip! Kirby is so smart that she gets inventive. I have to constantly think of new ways to
"trick" her. She out thinks me all the time. I have learned a lot trying to keep up with her. And as for wanting a girl who loves life - well those are Kirby's words to live by! She is happy with everything
she does. She is also the best guard dog in our house and can also be the cuddliest when she wants to. She is the best bed warmer and is a very easy keeper.
Everyone who meets Kirby falls instantly in love with her and she with them. She loves puppies and she is a terrible flirt with male dogs of just about any breed. She has a comical personality and always makes me laugh. Kirby earned her RN title in 2006 and just completed her Rally Advanced title on April 26, 2009. We will be working on her RE and CD this year! At almost 7, she definitely does not know that she is considered a Veteran!
